Janine Mitchell, of Derry, is our second Miss New Hampshire's Outstanding Teen. She is a member of the class of 2007 at Pinkerton Academy. Her platform is "Breaking the Barriers of Beauty." An honor roll student at Pinkerton, her educational goal is to be accepted into Boston College to major in communications. A member of the National Jr. Honor Society while a student at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, she also won the Outstanding Student Award from the Music Department. Janine is a member of the Pinkerton Dance Team and a Special Olympics Bowling coach.
Janine won the student choreography award four consecutive years at Kerry's Dance Center, the Coach's Award in cheerleading, and wrote, directed, and starred in the 2004 Christmas Pageant at First Parish Church. Janine has also won metals in gymnastics competitions. Janine is certified in CPR, serves as a volunteer Sunday school teacher and has volunteered with the Heifer Project at Meadowbrook Farm.
Janine, who won her title on February 12, 2006 after winning a preliminary evening-wear award the day earlier, performed a modern dance during talent to the song, "Tell Me Lies." She will compete for the title of Miss America's Outstanding Teen the week of August 16th in Orlando, Florida.
