Lauren April, of Auburn, is our 2010 Miss New Hampshire's Outstanding Teen. She is currently a Junior and a member of the class of 2011, at Mount Zion Christian Schools in Manchester, NH. As an honor student, she has received numerous academic awards, over the past few years, including the Academic Scholarship, God and Country Award, English, Science, Bible and Spanish honors. Lauren's love for her school is demonstrated in her extracurricular activities, including: Student Council Treasurer, Worship Team Leader, Yearbook Committee, Newsletter team, Spirit club, Drama, and High School Accreditation Representative. Lauren has also participated in missions trips to the Dominican Republic, where she helped provide medical supplies and worked with children teaching puppetry. On her trip to Philadelphia, she assisted inner city families in need.
Lauren also likes to stay physically fit and has been a 3 year starting setter for the Manchester Memorial High School Varsity Volleyball Team, plays off season for the Concord Regional Volleyball Club's Junior Olympic team and is a ski instructor at McIntyre Ski Area. Her hobbies include volleyball, skiing, camping and most importantly spending time with her family!
From the early age of 6, Lauren began playing classical guitar. She attributes her success to her initial and most recent guitar instructors, Chris Cavanaugh and Logan Gabriel, respectively, and to her parents who have provided her with the love and encouragement along the way. In 2005 and 2006, Lauren competed in national guitar competitions where she finished 4th and 6th, respectively. Lauren has also been honored to share her talent at various events over the past years, including nursing homes, her school and local church.
The daughter of David and Karen April, Lauren is the middle child of two other sisters, Megan and Leah. Her platform is volunteerism, "Motivating Youth to Pay it Forward". From a young age, Lauren has been involved in numerous volunteer activities and events and believes that we can all make a difference. Some of the volunteer activities Lauren has been involved with include: Performing for the Boston Children's Hospital and for her local school's fundraiser events; Participated in a Motorcycle road rally fund raiser to benefit foster children; Raising gifts and money for Operation Christmas Child; As well as participating in the Bedford Off-Broadway Christmas Shows, YMCA Soccer Assistant coach, Red Cross Blood Drive; First Assembly of God KID's church, nursery and Vacation Bible School volunteer; Talent Show Master of Ceremony, Usher at Miss NH pageants, etc.
Lauren won her title on January 17, 2010, where she competed with 25 other outstanding teens from across the Granite State. During the talent competition Lauren played "Scherzo" by J.K. Mertz and will compete for the title of Miss America's Outstanding Teen in August, in Orlando, Florida.
